How many Thursdays does a Secaucus summer actually have left? As of this week, three, and the last of them closes out the season. The Secaucus Summer Concert Series at Buchmuller Park started June 25 and wraps September 3, which means the season is now past its two-thirds mark and running out the clock on its final acts.
That part of the summer hasn't changed much in years. What has changed, and what most residents haven't fully clocked yet, is where the new food actually showed up. It isn't at Harmon Meadow, even though that's still the story most people repeat when they talk about eating in this town. The genuinely new openings in 2026 are smaller, closer to downtown, and worth knowing about before your next Thursday night out.
What's Left on the Calendar

There's also one more movie night at the ice rink, right next to the park: Lilo & Stitch (2025) on Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m. That puts a movie and a concert just two days apart in the same week, which is about as busy as this part of town gets before Labor Day.
The Town Museum, which normally keeps Saturday hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is an easy add-on if you've been meaning to see it and haven't made it there yet this year.
The Food Story Everyone Already Knows
Ask someone where to eat in Secaucus and most will point you to Harmon Meadow, the roughly 200-acre mixed-use campus at the junction of Route 3 and the New Jersey Turnpike. That reputation is accurate but it's also a couple of years old at this point. Cava and Shake Shack both opened there in June 2024, joining an existing lineup that already included Starbucks, Chipotle, Chili's, Red Lobster, Panera Bread, Olive Garden and Outback Steakhouse. Salad House had already opened by late 2023, and KPOT Korean BBQ signed on as part of the same wave of leases. That wave came out of a round of deals RIPCO Real Estate arranged on behalf of the property's ownership back in 2023, and by now every one of those restaurants has been open long enough to be routine rather than news.
That's worth saying plainly because a lot of what gets written about Secaucus dining treats the Harmon Meadow boom as current. It isn't anymore. It's the established backdrop.
What's Actually New This Year
The real 2026 food news is happening in two much smaller footprints, both closer to the neighborhoods that actually walk to Buchmuller Park.
The first is Wingstop, which signed a lease for a 1,300-square-foot space at The Plaza Center and was targeting a spring 2026 grand opening. That makes it Wingstop's fifth Hudson County location, joining spots in Jersey City, Hoboken, Union City and North Bergen, plus one just over the border in Little Ferry. If you haven't spotted it open yet at The Plaza Center, it should be very close.
The second is the corner of Mill Creek Drive, where the old Bonefish Grill closed for good and the space is being split into three storefronts: a Paris Baguette coffee and pastry shop, a Popeye's, and a third tenant that hadn't been announced as of this spring. Mayor Michael Gonnelli said the Popeye's could open as early as this summer, which means the window he was talking about is right now. Just across the way, a drive-through Chick-fil-A has been proposed for the former Red Robin site, though as of this spring the zoning board hadn't yet signed off on the teardown and rebuild.
The contrast matters more than any single opening. Harmon Meadow is a highway-adjacent complex you drive to. The Mill Creek Drive corner sits inside the part of town people already walk through on their way to the park, the ice rink, or the train.
A Third Food Story, for Anyone Passing Through
There's one more thread, smaller than the other two but genuinely new this year: Secaucus Junction itself picked up three food tenants this spring, Cinnabon, Auntie Anne's Pretzels and Carvel Ice Cream, all sharing a single spot inside the station. NJ Transit framed it as a way to give commuters more to grab on their way through, which is exactly what it is. It's not a dinner destination, but if you're catching a train after the Thursday show, it's a new option that wasn't there a year ago.
So the town is actually running three separate food stories at once this year: an established highway cluster that stopped being news a while back, a genuinely new pair of openings closer to downtown, and a commuter-facing addition inside the station that serves a completely different kind of hunger.
Putting a Thursday Night Together
If you're heading to Buchmuller Park before the season closes, the honest answer is that the newest options aren't quite dinner yet. Popeye's and the rest of the Mill Creek Drive lineup are landing in real time, which means some weeks you'll find them open and some weeks you won't. Until then, the longtime downtown spots, the kind of Italian deli or pizza counter every Secaucus resident already has memorized, are still the more reliable pre-concert stop. That's not a knock on the new arrivals. It's just the state of a food scene mid-transition, which is a more interesting place to be than a food scene that finished changing two years ago and everyone's still talking about it like it's fresh.
Two more regular Thursdays, one closing show, one movie night, and a town quietly rewriting its food map from the middle out instead of the edges in. That's a decent way to spend the end of a summer.
